The Growing Continues

Despite the cold and rainy weather the leaves are still changing. Everything has brightened to green the last week. It catches my breath when I look outside to see everything come alive again. It has been such a long winter.

My Window Boxes

Angel is already looking in my window boxes for something to nibble.

Horse Chestnut Tree May 28th

The leaves are getting longer and soon there will be a little candle popping out. The whole tree is starting to fill in.

Another Customer From Indonesia

What a coincidence that another customer came in from Indonesia yesterday. I told her about the family from the day before and she would have loved to meet them. She has not found anyone from Indonesia on her travels. The taller lady is from Japan.
One day last week, 3 separate cars came to the shop at the same time and they were all from Manitoba.
On Sunday, a nice couple in a bright blue compact car came into the shop. They were from Northern Saskatchewan. They left and in no more than 10 minutes the same car was back with Saskatchewan license plates so I had thought they came back. To my surprise it was a different couple from southern Saskatchewan. The two couples are both traveling across Canada in the same vehicle but they do not know each other. The first couple will take the ferry to Newfoundland on Monday and the second couple will take the ferry to Newfoundland on Tuesday. It will be so funny if they ever meet.

Customers from Indonesia

I do believe that the three people on the right are our first customers from Indonesia. They have come a long way to buy our goat's milk soap. The two people on the left are from Ontario and are some of our best customers. They love our soap and could not say enough good things about it (and of course I love hearing it!). I'm sorry that I didn't get anyone's names.

Chocolate With Peppermint Chunks

Another cold wet day. We made Chocolate Fudge Goat's Milk Soap with Peppermint Chunks. A lot less calories than making chocolate fudge in the kitchen and eating it. I can not wait to cut it!

Rain, Rain And More Rain

What a difference in the buds over the last few days! Yesterday was our first day of sun in quite a while. For the last couple of days it would rain all day and then at dusk the sun would show itself for a spectacular sunset. Yesterday it was sunny all day and it rained in the evening. However, we did see a spectacular rainbow.

Thank You Janice

Thanks Janice for the email commenting on our soap. No worries, we will keep making Water Lily. This soap fragrance has one of the biggest followings. Here is Janice's comment:

My family used your soap for the first time last year on our trip to PEI. We bought a few bars and then I purchased some more online. I can't wait to til our next trip in June so I can stock up on our favorite scent....Water Lily. Please don't ever stop making it!
See you in a few weeks.

Horse Chestnut Tree May 19th

If you have not been to our place before, we have a huge Horse Chestnut tree in the front of the house. Every year I want to document the opening of the buds and this year I hope to do it and post the pictures here on the blog.
The email newsletter went out yesterday. If you have any comments on it, please send them. I want to hear from you so I can make the best newsletter ever. If you did not get one, please email me and I will send one to you.

Another Cold Wet Day

As always, Porsche and Jasmine are ready to go for a walk on this damp and chilly morning.
Even the tulips are closed tightly and shivering from the weather.

Discovering The World Outside

We have had two beautiful days of sun. The wind was chilly and strong but the sun was so warming.
Tulip enjoyed fresh grass with her babies close by her side. It was their first time outside. Now when you open the door to go in the barn they both dart to the door to get back outside. I think they will change their minds today though. It is cold and raining, and looks dull and damp but that is spring on the Atlantic coast.

4H Goat Project

I thought it would be nice for Jordan and Katie to join 4H last fall. I also thought they would enjoy taking the goat project. At the time there was not a leader for the goat project so I volunteered and volunteered my goats. In the bottom picture are the 4 boys designing their goat barn. The top picture is of Donnie and Gerty.

All My Growing Kids

It's not too often that we are all in the barn at the same time. I ran and got the camera and here they are, all 5 of them (3 two legged ones and 2 four legged ones.)

Finishing Liquid Soap

Back to the liquid soap.

Rosemary and Lavender Shampoo Rosemary is good for stimulating hair growth. Combined with Lavender it is a classic shampoo from days of ol'.

Peppermint and Tea Tree Shampoo This is my favourite. I really love the benefits of Tea Tree but don't like the smell too much. Combining it with Peppermint, a strong overpowering smell like Tea Tree turns out not to be as strong. This shampoo will wake you up in the mornings and get you energized for the day.

Country Kitchen Dish and Hand Soap Here is a great way to put aromatherapy into your day. Fill the kitchen sink with dirty dishes with warm to hot water and add some Country Kitchen Dish and Hand Soap. You will be breathing in and soaking your hands in the wonderful essential oils of Rosemary and Sweet Orange.

That is all of them. Eight different kinds of liquid soap. We still have another 500 to bottle and put the labels on all of them. But that will be another day.

On a different note. I had a great Mother's Day. Katie made the day special, Jordan gave me lots of hugs, David took over the Newsletter I was writing, and Julia..... I'm just happy she is here.

Off to see the new kids in the barn.

More Liquid Soap

Relatively speaking, for May 11th on the Island the store was quite busy. The most exciting thing was the first customers bought liquid soap. I put so much time and energy into making and researching liquid soap and by the end I was hoping people would actually still want the soap.
I feel a sigh of relief as our family will not be using the liquid soap I made in 2008 into the 22nd century.

Happy Mother's Day Mrs. Goose

There was once a book in our possession from Golden Book with the gold foil on the binding called Happy Mother's Day Mrs. Goose. It was a great story about the little farm girl who took Mrs. Goose's last egg that she was waiting to hatch. Mrs. Goose was taking her goslings for their first swim when this happened. The story has a happy ending and some life lessons like all good books.
In our house it is Mother and Daughter's Day. Last year I had one daughter here and a picture of the other still waiting in China. Now, I have two daughters here with me to hug and wish me a Happy Mother's Day. To all the Mother's and Daughter's in the world may, your day be filled with happiness, love and laughter.

NEW! Chocolate Lover's Beware

The best part of soap making for me is the creativity.
PEPERMINT CHOCOLATE CHUNK smells heavenly. Now I'm going to make Chocolate with Peppermint Chunks.

NEW! Fancy Special Effects Soap

Raspberry Truffle
I could hardly wait to unmold it. I think it looks more precious then jewellery. The scent smells like fresh raspberries with a creamy sweetness. I will try to wait the required 4 weeks before using it. I know it will lather well and be moisturing to my skin as it is made with excellent oils and goat's milk from our farm.

The Kids Are Here

We went into town to get our family picture taken and Tulip had her babies while we were away. They are quite different than what we are used to. The white one is a little girl and the brown one is a boy. Mom and babies are all doing well.

Thank You Emily

It is so lovely to hear my soap continues to help people with sensitive skin. Handmade soap is great for your skin but when you add goat's milk it superfats the soap. Superfatting equals moisturizing.

HearAboutUs: My father\'s family is from Nova Scotia, and every 5 years or so we have a family reunion on PEI. This past summer (August 2007) we were there and some of us stopped into the shop. I bought a number of bars of soap and I loved them! I have very sensitive skin and I\'ve found that it\'s one of the few soaps I\'ve ever used that leaves my skin feeling clean and not irritated. I\'m on my last bar and so I thought I\'d see if you all have a website that I could order from, and you do! So yes... I\'m trying to replenish my stock of soap :)

Liquid Soap

In case, if you were ever wondering what 1,000 liquid soap bottles ever looked like here they are.

Hanna and Tulip May 2008

Liquid Goat Milk Soap

New for 2008 we are selling liquid goat milk soap. I have been experimenting since 2004 trying to make liquid soap. It is a different method then cold process soap. (cold process is the hard bar soap) I wanted to make a healing herb liquid soap. All the soap has a good portion of goat's milk, shea and cocoa butters.
Here they are:
Warming Cinnamon and Ginger
Great for cold hands and body. Interesting note - the affects of Cinnamon essential oil can stay on your hands for a week.
Cooling Peppermint and Eucalyptus
I love the combination of peppermint and eucalyptus. A long time ago we made a hard bar with the same essential oils and I loved it then. It is very simulating. A shower with Cooling Peppermint and Eucalyptus will start your day with a zing.
Relaxing Lavender and Sweet Orange
What can I say about lavender, the most popular soap in the world? Pairing it with sweet orange gives the soap a lovely fruity scent.
Harmony Sandalwood, Rose and Geranium
The story of Harmony: When my back hurts from lifting 50 pound blocks of coconut oil, I go see Harmony and she fixes the problem. I had all the liquid soaps made and she suggested a PMS soap with sandalwood, rose and geranium. I thought about it a split second and decided to change all the unscented liquid soap to PMS Soap. Sorry to all the unscented customers. Next batch I will make unscented.
Healing Lavender and Geranium with Calendula and Chamomile Petals
The number one question we get asked is what soap is good for eczema and dry skin. This winter I did some research and found that lavender, and geranium are both good for eczema. Now, after saying that, some people cannot use them; it depends on your skin. Everyone is different when it come to essential oils. I added the petals of calendula and chamomile because they are so good for your skin and make the soap a pretty yellow.

You can use all the liquid soaps on your whole body, including your hair.

I have more liquid soaps to tell you about but I must check on Tulip. There could be, new to the world, kids in the barn. I hope they are on the ground and I do not have to deliver them.

Hanna and Tulip

Last fall I sold a bunch of goats. I had too many to fit in the barn for the winter. It was sad to see them go since all of them have been here since birth. I decided not to breed any in the fall because kidding time is so stressful and I have enough milk in the freezer.
The fellow who bought Hanna and Tulip is now selling his whole herd, and guess who is in the barn again? You got it - Hanna and Tulip! Tulip is due to kid May 6th - today! She was bred to a Nubian buck (long floppy ears and roman nose). We might have some interesting kids. Hanna did not take. Which, in the goat world, means the breeding attempt was not successful.
